Dive Conditions
Shark Island near Sai Daeng, Koh Tao, offers an exciting dive experience in Thailand’s Gulf of Thailand. This site features dramatic granite rock formations and coral-covered boulders that create an intriguing underwater landscape. Divers encounter vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical fish species, including fusiliers, snappers, and groupers.
The site typically descends to depths of 12-25 meters, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced divers. Strong currents are common, adding an element of challenge and excitement. Marine life encounters may include barracudas, jacks, and occasionally reef sharks, which give the site its name.
The rocky terrain provides excellent opportunities for macro photography, with nudibranchs, crustaceans, and small reef fish hidden among crevices. Visibility generally ranges from 5-15 meters depending on seasonal conditions. Best diving occurs during the dry season from February to May when sea conditions are calmer and underwater visibility improves.
