Shaab Maksour is a stunning reef system located in the Red Sea’s Indian Ocean waters, offering exceptional diving experiences for intermediate to advanced divers. This site features dramatic coral formations and pristine reef structures that descend to depths of 30-40 meters, with shallow areas beginning around 5-12 meters suitable for all levels.
Divers encounter spectacular hard coral gardens, including acropora and branching corals, alongside vibrant soft coral formations. The site’s diverse marine life includes reef sharks, groupers, snappers, and schools of barracuda and trevally. Smaller species such as butterflyfish, parrotfish, and nudibranchs are abundant among the coral formations.
Strong currents are common at Shaab Maksour, making it best suited for experienced divers comfortable with drift diving techniques. The nutrient-rich waters attract larger pelagic species, particularly during seasonal migrations.
Visibility typically ranges from 20-35 meters, providing excellent opportunities for photography. The combination of pristine corals, abundant marine life, and challenging conditions makes Shaab Maksour a premier Red Sea diving destination.
