Dive Conditions
Banana Split, located at Lajupemali Besar in Komodo’s Sape Strait, is an intermediate to advanced dive site renowned for its dramatic underwater topography and exceptional marine biodiversity. The site features distinctive rock formations that resemble its namesake, creating natural channels and swim-throughs for exploration.
Divers encounter vibrant coral gardens hosting diverse reef fish, including snappers, groupers, and fusiliers. Pelagic species such as trevally and sharks patrol the deeper waters, while smaller creatures like nudibranchs and crustaceans populate the rocky crevices. Depths range from 15 to 40 meters, with the most interesting features found between 25-35 meters.
The site experiences strong currents typical of the Sape Strait, making it suitable for experienced divers comfortable with drift diving. Visibility typically ranges from 10-25 meters depending on tidal conditions. Best diving conditions occur during dry season months when currents stabilize and water clarity improves.
