Dive Conditions
The Thistlegorm is a legendary British cargo ship that sank in 1941 during World War II, located in the Red Sea near Sharm El Sheikh. This iconic wreck sits at depths of 20-33 meters, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced divers with wreck experience.
Divers explore the remarkably intact vessel, discovering trucks, motorcycles, ammunition, and military supplies still scattered throughout the holds. The superstructure remains navigable, offering thrilling penetrations through cabins, corridors, and engine rooms.
The site teems with vibrant marine life, including large groupers, snappers, trevally, and occasional reef sharks. Colorful corals and sea fans have colonized the wreck, creating a unique artificial reef ecosystem.
Strong currents are common, requiring proper buoyancy control and navigation skills. The combination of depth, wreck complexity, and current conditions demands certification and experience. Multiple dives are recommended to fully appreciate this historically significant and biologically rich site, consistently ranked among the world’s best wreck dives.
