Tatawa Besar, located in Siaba Besar near Komodo in Indonesia’s Flores Sea, offers an exhilarating diving experience suitable for intermediate to advanced divers. This site features dramatic underwater topography with steep walls, boulders, and sandy slopes descending to depths of 40+ meters.
Divers encounter vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical fish species, including snappers, trevally, and fusiliers. The site is renowned for its abundance of pelagic marine life—expect encounters with reef sharks, manta rays, and occasionally Napoleon wrasse. Strong currents are common, attracting large schools of fish and creating excellent visibility often exceeding 15 meters.
The rocky terrain and coral formations provide excellent macro photography opportunities alongside dramatic seascape views. Tatawa Besar’s challenging conditions and rich biodiversity make it a premier destination within the Komodo region. The site’s nutrient-rich waters support exceptional coral health and diverse reef ecosystems. Proper dive training and experience with drift diving are essential for safely navigating this dynamic East Nusa Tenggara site.
