Donkalo Thila is a premier dive site located in Ari Atoll, Maldives, offering an exciting underwater experience in the Indian Ocean. This submerged reef pinnacle rises from the atoll floor, providing diverse diving opportunities for intermediate to advanced divers.
The thila features steep walls and interesting topography with coral-covered slopes and crevices. Divers typically explore depths ranging from 20 to 40 meters, with the pinnacle’s summit lying around 15 meters below the surface.
Marine life is abundant and varied at Donkalo Thila. Visitors frequently encounter reef sharks, including blacktips and whitetips, along with groupers, snappers, and large schools of fusiliers. Turtles, rays, and occasionally eagle rays patrol the site, while vibrant coral formations and nudibranchs add to the visual appeal.
The site’s moderate to strong currents attract pelagic species, making it an ideal location for experiencing Maldivian megafauna. Donkalo Thila is best suited for divers with solid buoyancy control and experience in current diving, offering memorable encounters with diverse tropical marine life.
